Offline GPU path tracer, creating a realistic image by simulating how light bounces off objects, interacts with materials, and hits the camera. This program estimates the light transport equation (which describes how light reflects off a surface) using Monte Carlo integration: we randomly sample different directions of light, then combine these samples into a final output pixel. Averaged out, this converges to the physically-accurate result over time.

Features of this implementation:
  • Multiple importance sampling, which combines the benefits of direct light source sampling and BSDF sampling through weighting
  • Combined direct (with MIS) lighting and indirect lighting for global illumination (less noise and faster than the naive approach)
  • Microfacet and transmissive materials
